Faith in the Storm

Faith in the Storm

Scripture:

“Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27)

Life has a way of throwing storms our direction—unexpected news, sudden changes, or struggles that feel bigger than us. In Matthew 14, Peter experienced this firsthand. When Jesus called him out of the boat, Peter actually walked on water! But the moment he shifted his eyes from Jesus to the crashing waves, fear took over and he began to sink.

The truth is, storms don’t have the power to sink us—fear does. As long as Peter kept his focus on Jesus, he walked in the impossible. And the same is true for us. The storms of life may be loud and intimidating, but they can’t overtake us when our eyes are fixed on the One who calms the sea.

Encouragement

Fear often creeps in when we focus on what could go wrong instead of who is with us. Jesus’ words still echo today: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” When you remember that Jesus is right there with you in the storm, courage replaces fear and faith begins to rise.

Application

  • Pray through the storm. Instead of rehearsing your fears, release them to God in prayer.
  • Worship while you wait. Worship shifts your focus from the problem to the Problem-Solver.
  • Hold onto His promises. Write down one scripture—like Isaiah 41:10 or Philippians 4:6–7—and keep it close. Speak it over yourself whenever fear tries to return.

The storm may still rage around you, but when your eyes stay on Jesus, you’ll find the strength to walk above the waves.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to keep my eyes on You when life feels overwhelming. Remind me that You are with me in every storm. Strengthen my faith, calm my fears, and teach me to walk with courage. Amen.
