Unfollow Sin, Follow Christ
In today’s world, the word “follow” carries weight. With a single tap, we choose who influences us—whose voices shape our thinking, whose lives we admire, and whose words we let into our hearts. But here’s the reality: not everything or everyone we follow leads us closer to life, truth, and peace. Some paths only pull us further into chaos, emptiness, and regret.
That’s exactly what sin does. It lures us in with promises of satisfaction, but in the end, it leaves us broken. Sin is like a flashy social media account—it may look exciting at first glance, but the content poisons your soul over time. Scripture is clear: “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
The Choice to “Unfollow
Think about your phone for a second. How often do you “unfollow” accounts that don’t bring value, peace, or inspiration to your life? Maybe it’s the negativity, the drama, or the toxic influence that pushed you to hit “unfollow.” What if we treated sin the same way?
To “unfollow” sin means to stop giving it space in our hearts and stop letting it dictate our choices. It doesn’t mean we won’t struggle or be tempted—we all do—but it means we make a conscious decision: “I don’t have to live under its control anymore.”
Paul reminds us, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). In Christ, you don’t just mute sin—you unfollow it completely, because you’ve chosen a new life.
Following Christ
But here’s the beauty—unfollowing sin isn’t just about saying “no.” It’s about saying “yes” to Someone far greater. When Jesus said, “Follow Me” (Matthew 4:19), He wasn’t offering a temporary trend. He was inviting us into a transformed life—a life filled with love, grace, freedom, and purpose.
Following Christ means letting His Word influence your decisions, letting His Spirit guide your actions, and letting His love define your identity. It’s waking up each day and asking, “Lord, what do You want me to post, share, live, and reflect today?”
Picture this: You’re scrolling through your feed, and you see two accounts.
- One is constantly draining, negative, and destructive.
- The other is uplifting, life-giving, and full of encouragement.
Which one would you choose to follow? That’s the daily choice between sin and Christ. One leads to destruction, the other to abundant life (John 10:10).
Here are some ways you can “unfollow sin” and “follow Christ” today:
- Audit your influences. Who or what has the loudest voice in your life? Replace toxic influences with Scripture, prayer, and godly voices.
- Set spiritual boundaries. Just like you filter your social media feed, filter what you allow into your heart.
- Stay connected to the Word. Let God’s truth shape your thoughts and decisions more than culture does.
- Practice daily surrender. Following Christ isn’t a one-time click—it’s a daily choice to walk in His ways.
Friend, you don’t have to keep following the same destructive patterns. Christ offers you freedom. Today, you can unfollow sin and follow the Savior who loves you deeply. And when you do, you’ll discover a life of peace, hope, and joy that no trend or temptation can replace.
Affirmation:
Today, I choose to unfollow sin and follow Christ. My past does not define me—Christ does. I am free, I am loved, and I am made new in Him.
